So, this is what I'm talking about. This was last spring in Denver.

And this was our very own apple tree (we trimmed it this winter so it is much more restrained these days). We were anticipating a bloom this spring, but at this point it seems unlikely. So sad.
That's my dog Sam, btw, barking after those pesky squirrels who like to steal my flower bulbs.
