I recently had the honor of being interviewed on the subject of my illustration by the
delightful Patricia van
Essche of
PVE design. Patricia is an illustrator and designer who worked for more than a decade as a designer and design director for such luminaries as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Based solely on her patrician beauty, formidable
resumé and glittering clientele, one might assume a certain aloofness. On the contrary, Patricia herself
exudes joy, warmth and welcome through the vast and chilly ether of the
Internet. A bit of a miracle of creative energy, she does commercial illustration, portraits and architectural illustrations, as well as pattern design on commission. In her "spare" time, she blogs, and fosters creativity by reaching out to other creative people in the blogging community. She also manages to raise three beautiful children (in fact, as I was recently emailing with her, she was making pancakes for her kids' Monday morning breakfast). Oh, and she
knits. Now, I ask you? I don't knit myself, but if I did, I'd be hard pressed to figure out how to do so while maintaining my freelance business and raising even
one child. Patricia, my hat is off to you.
The above image is one of her more recent works, an illustration of the Breezy Hill Inn, a bed and breakfast in New York's Catskill mountains. Go and peruse her
blog and
illustration site for more lovely work and inspiration for creative living.
