Fall blooms.

I love my autumn walks around the neighborhood, even when it's a little drizzly like it is today. I love to watch the colors shift and the moods change. I love the way the smells alter with the chemical changes in the earth and air, with each slight dip in temperature. There is an especially sharp sweetness to each season now, with a tiny, hot hand clamped onto mine, her grin, the apple-flush on her cheeks, the way she skips for the first time through autumn leaves, collecting pinecones and fallen sunflowers with nimble fingers. When we were waiting to become parents, I dreamed of the way a child would intensify our experience of the world, bring back the deep, shining wonder in every tiny detail...and so she has! Oh, so she has.

Fall is looking much prettier in your yard than mine. I must cut back everything that is shocking from cold nights. Beautiful picts as always.

I wish I could have an identifiable Fall. The beauty of the leaves as they turn and crisp air. Very pretty images. Every experience seen anew through a child's eyes makes you appreciate humanity the more.

Maia, very well said (written). I love the way you describe the beauty of the season!

This is one of my favourite side effects of young children, the untainted enthusiasm and sheer excitement of the every day things. The glee and smile of finding a nice stone or spotting a snail for example. It can be such a good remedy for those moments when life feels heavy. It brings the silliness and wonder right back smashing into the picture.
I miss the smells and sounds of fall, it's all going green here.
