My mum turned 75 this week, just after returning from her annual trip to Iceland.
I thought that as a tribute to her birthday I'd post these photos that she took on her spring roadtrip into the canyonlands of the Escalante wilderness in Utah.
My mother is one of the most adventurous people I know, and so her decision to backpack into Escalante with her tent on her back was no surprise. I won't say we weren't jealous, however!
Indian ruins in the canyon.
Badlands.
Petroglyphs.
My mum trekking through the river.
Her guide, demonstrating proper quicksand technique ;)
I believe this is called Jacob Hamblin arch, not accessible by any road but only by hiking into a steep canyon deep in the Escalante wilderness.
Cactus in bloom.
