I love the aesthetic of Portland General Store. The ingredients, the package design, the product names.
Myself, I love masculine scents, and many of these products are "for men, but..." which always makes me covetous. I am dying to try the Moss or Wood eau de cologne, but I hate to buy scents without smelling them first.
Still, some of these products are too good to pass up, particularly the vintage-style shaving products, and...well...lets just say there may be some valentine's day-ing in the offing here ;

Speaking of perfume and scents, I have to give a shout out to my brother's perfume that he somehow managed to launch at Colette in Paris last year. It's a great unisex perfume called WienerBlut Klubwasser (he's from Vienna). It has mossy-hay notes (comme de la fougere) and black cumin... Inspired by turn-of-the-century Vienna and the "bouquet in your handkerchief" tradition (among other things : like the moldy smell of our summer house at the cape :)

OK, Cara, I'm DEFINITELY going to have to check that out! You had me at "mossy-hay"! Sounds right up my alley, and very cool.

Cara, I googled your brother's scent and I am thoroughly intrigued. Hope you don't mind if I do a post on it in the near future. Can't trace your profile to ask you by email, so I hope you get this here.

Oh cool. I like the packaging and curious to know if "tobacco" and "whisky" actually smell like the real stuff. I can't imagine having a tobacco bath but hey, maybe it's divine. When I was in high school, I used to dab on men's cologne from my mother's stash of Avon products. I preferred the men's scents over the women's at the time. Nowadays it's all about mangoes. My husband says that I smell like a fruit salad in the summer.

Oh, great! I was going to send you this link with a review which includes a link to his interview, but it may be the same article you read: http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/2009/09/wienerblut_klubwasser_2009_per.html

I would love if you posted it, thanks! Maybe it will be available in the US someday! At this point it's available in Paris, Rome and Vienna... It's his hobby, but he's quite passionate about it and working on a new scent with notes of licorice. He had me smell 'La petite robe noir de Guerlain' to get an idea... (My email is madeinmaman@gmail.com) Thanks again!
All the best! Cara
