Thursday

Back in the day, when the Q was still just a dream and a few heavy sheaves of government paperwork for us, I was fortunate enough to have been invited into a group of lovely local women who were also in the long, long preamble to adoption. When I began joining in on their monthly evenings out, only one or two of the group had children. At this latest gathering, there were enough children to make the head spin a bit! This one was a celebration for our friend Bernadette, who is, after many long years of waiting, about to travel to China to meet her daughter.

It was landmark day for us, too, because it was the first time in all these years that my husband was able to be at the party!
The beautiful Sara, daughter of our most constant, generous and gracious host, Jan. You have seen Sara before on my blog, but she has grown and matured so much in these few short months. Her English is probably 99% fluent at this point, which never ceases to amaze me. She is also, like her mother, incredibly gracious and social.
Every parent in the group has either adopted or is in the adoption process. The children are from China, Mexico, and the US. It's good to see all of them together from time to time.
And yes, Q is wearing the Union Jack here, but purely for aesthetic purposes. My Dutch grandfather went to school in England, and my lovely cousins Poppy and Sophie were born and raised in the UK. But Q has yet to visit that corner of the world. Someday soon...I hope.
Q and Sara.
Q fascinated by Chris' new little one.
In the midst of the festivities, we found ourselves chased briefly undercover by a rainshower which produced this stunning rainbow.

Mike spends some quality time with Kris' beautiful baby (that's Kris at bottom with her munchkin).
Mike and Q watching the sunset on the clouds...
...which looked a lot like this.

Oh how I love summer in Colorado.

Those pictures of the clouds took me back home to another place and another land. Beautiful images of the children. That dress on Q is gorgeous.

Beautiful collage of photos and families! And I love the dress! She'd look very cool in it over here in Blighty!!

Now the question is - will she be wearing it when England play the USA in the Football (Soccer) World Cup tomorrow???

What a great post! All those happy families! Adoption is a big part of our family's life, and I can't imagine it any other way.

Love Q's dress! xo Gigi
