Thursday

Skating with Santa to the tunes of Christmas songs at the Holiday celebration.
In the first picture you can see Q avidly conveying all her Christmas wishes to Santa.
"Pink all this stuff, except no pink Buddha!"
This has been her refrain for weeks now.

Having daddy spin her on her back, a new favorite thing.

Merry Christmas little family. I adore you all. I am working on Q's painting and to do so warms my heart and makes me happy.

I didn't know Buddha came in pink. (What do I know?)
Q must have strong ankles. I am an old ice skater and I am impressed!
I look forward to seeing Q's delight as she unwraps gifts.
Have a wonderful Christmas.

Your girl is SO slender - I can't get over how grown-up she looks until I read the whole "pink" thing; that's a little girl if ever was.

Merry Christmas and much pink joy to her, you, and your whole little family...

Oh my gosh, that photo of Maia's dad spinning his daughter on the ice is awesome! Has he printed and framed it yet? And that's funny about Maia wanting all pink presents - except no pink Buddha. Where on earth did she come up with that exception? Funny!

Jeanne-ming, we have been thinking of you this holiday season, with your beautiful painting hanging amid the holiday splendor and celebration in our livingroom. Yes, I think "Pink all this stuff" will probably be the title of her memoir ;) And it will outsell Paris Hilton's ;)

Yoli, I heard your request for skating pictures. Ask, and you shall receive!

Daan - Thank you! I have been eyeing stamp-cutting equipment at the art store thanks to your gorgeous stamps...but I'm not going there. I can't possibly do them as well as you do.

Justine, thank you, and your tote bag (such a favorite of Q's) has been adding to the magic of our season.

Nathalie - None of us were aware that Buddha came in pink. But apparently, if he does, he has been crossed off Q's Christmas list. Poor Buddha. She is very aware that Mommy is a fan of Buddha...she just isn't sure whether she can trust him yet. So she wants to make sure he won't show up unannouced under her Christmas tree.

And btw I am a former skater as well (circa the '70s) and my ankles are feeling awfully wobbly these days! Nevertheless I am so enjoying skating with a little hand tucked into mine.

Alliot and Iza, thinking of you so often these days. Love to you both and many happy wishes for the year to come! OX

Susanna - always enjoy visiting your graceful and beauty-filled blog, and thanks for visiting us! Just so you know, I am Maia (the mommy) and the daughter is Q. I know it's confusing - when I was growing up I was the only Maia in town except for one little Russian girl. These days, "Maia" is a much more common name among the kiddos. Our daughter Q has an English-language name, but we have never managed to switch from her Chinese name (hence the Q) which means Autumn.

John, we also can't get over how grown she looks. It's sometimes difficult to remember what a baby she still is - especially when she wants to learn to spell, and use subtraction. But yes, she is in that little-girl pink phase. And also occasionally she wants to be treated like a "baby" and rocked in our arms.

Loving wishes to you and your family and best wishes for the year to come. OX
