So, for those of you who have been wondering if we were celebrating the Chinese New Year...Yes.
Our local Asian community traditionally throws a big party on the weekend following the actual new year. Last year, it fell immediately after a deep-freeze (which happens most years in Colorado during the month of January). This year, we've had a particularly mild winter, and it just so happens that our first real snows took place this week.
Unfortunately for Q, the CNY dances take place between 1:00 and 3:00 pm...her usual naptime. So of course, she fell asleep in the car on the way over.
My husband felt the need to document that moment.
Shortly afterward, he took this extremely dorky picture of the two of us in the car, just before stepping out for the ceremony.
Oranges, sesame buns, and used fireworks (yeah, we arrived a bit late!)

Looks like a good time! I had no idea Denver had a Chinatown.
I used to live very near the Argyle stop for the El in Chicago, which was the real Asian neighborhood: Peking ducks in the windows, odd herbs you could buy, fish in the buckets still. Here we're pretty more limited to a smattering of Asian grocers rather than a neighborhood. I miss it sometimes! (Though I do NOT miss having to drive over to New Chinatown to do laundry weekly!).
What a colorful celebration! Looks wonderful!
Surprising to see Q in a child's car seat, sleeping. Just like a three year old!
you are a busy busy girl! love the dolls and the dioramas - how fun!
gung hee fat choy, or gong hai to little Q too!
It looks like you all had such a great time. Beautiful family photos.
Hey
I've lost all connection to you. It was good to see your comment, haven't sold a single pair but it was fun to be featured. Send me an e-mail sometime so we can reconnect the old-fashioned way. Q looks so tall!
Geraldine
