This is actually the Salton Sea in California - a natural disaster that was once meant to be a resort community. They created an inland lake, but things went wrong, all the fish died and the lake became a plague of botulism. All the restorts failed instantly and they are now ghost towns - tattered curtains flying in the wind, covered in graffiti. It's very bizarre. We went there specifically to take photographs. It reeks, so it's not like you'd want to hang out downwind for long. But it's very surreal and kinda cool.

Looks like you are looking out to the sea.
