Tuesday

On one of our last days in the city, we took the ferry to Governor's Island to visit a series of artists installations that had taken up residence in some of the long-abandoned staff housing there.
What artist could resist the allure of empty rooms to reimagine at will...the blank slate of a house, without codes or regulations, without even the strictures of practicality to worry about.
Though the ferry seemed quite crowded, the island is spacious enough to absorb sizeable crowds, and it felt like we had the empty houses and their installations nearly to ourselves...which is, I have to say, my favorite way to experience contemporary art.
The amorphous, mirrored mosaics were Q's favorite, and how could they not be? Pure magic.
So enchanting a setting for a little girl that, if I could find the time, I would populate our house with mirrored mosaics.
I love the juxtaposition with the peeling peeling plaster of the ceilings and stairwells.

Such a pleasure to roam without crowds or museum guards, a place in which the imagination can quite literally run wild. I love it.

What an utter joy to be able to roam at will through the installation. That is why I love many modern art installations so much. It is the invitation to interact with the subject at hand, which creates evolving possibilities. Those mirror mosaics are just otherworldly. I loved everything that you have shown us.

I have to make a comment regarding the images that are larger. I cannot see them all and I get half of your letters cut off. Maybe it is just me.

Yoli, I forget, what kind of computer are you on? I have checked on both the iMac screen and my small iPad screen, and nothing gets cut off. Anyone else have this problem?

Wow. What a magical exhibition. I'm in love with those mirror mosaics, too, and the shirts and just the spaces themselves! I remember loving the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh because we could play with the mylar pillows. I wish more gallery spaces allowed for such play and imagination!
